WRIGHTWOOD, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY — NOVEMBER 5, 2026. Wrightwood residents can learn practical methods for protecting homes from storm runoff at a free sandbag training on Saturday, November 7, organized by the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services with County Fire, Wrightwood Community Emergency Response Team and Team Rubicon.
Two locations, one afternoon
Classroom instruction is scheduled for 3–4:15 p.m. at the Wrightwood Community Services District, 1275 State Highway 2. Hands-on practice follows from 4:30–5:30 p.m. at San Bernardino County Fire Station 14, 5980 Elm Street.
What attendees will learn
Instructors plan to demonstrate safe methods for filling, moving and stacking sandbags, constructing water-diversion walls, protecting building entrances and creating temporary levees. These measures can reduce damage from some localized flooding, although sandbags are not a substitute for evacuation when authorities issue an urgent order.
How to participate
The training is free but advance registration is required. Organizers have limited attendance to 30 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The county announcement includes the official registration form. Anyone considering travel from nearby mountain communities should confirm the event status and driving conditions before departure.
